Rise in Arrears
As of now, 1.56 lakh low-tension consumers owe a total of ₹120.43 crore. Specifically, Nagpur district accounts for 1.32 lakh consumers with dues of ₹107.35 crore, while Wardha district has 24,535 consumers owing ₹13.08 crore. The defaulters comprise domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers, indicating a widespread issue with delayed payments.
Breakdown of Defaulters
In Nagpur alone, the breakdown of unpaid bills is as follows:
– 1.09 lakh domestic consumers
– 19,503 commercial establishments
– 3,739 industrial units
Wardha district reports similar issues, with more than 21,000 domestic consumers and over 3,100 commercial and industrial consumers failing to pay their dues.
Intensified Recovery Campaign
Faced with this financial burden, MSEDCL has intensified its recovery efforts. The utility has warned that disconnections will continue wherever payments are not made, despite previous notices. Consumers are reminded that reconnection fees will apply, costing ₹310 for single-phase supply and ₹520 for three-phase supply.
Payment Options and Monitoring
MSEDCL encourages consumers to utilize online payment methods, which offer a 0.25% discount. Payments can be made via the official website, mobile app, MahaPower Pay, UPI platforms, or at authorized collection centers. The recovery initiative is being closely monitored by Nagpur circle chief engineer Dilip Dodke, who has set specific targets for staff.

MSEDCL has also warned of strict legal action against individuals found to be illegally using electricity after disconnection. A recent case in Nagpur resulted in a consumer receiving a prison sentence and a fine for unauthorized reconnection.
